Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI)

Intra-Uterine Insemination or IUI is an option for fertility treatment where washed sperm are placed inside a woman’s uterus. Strong, active sperm will be washed prior to placing 5 million or more number of sperm into the uterus.

Who Needs IUI?

IUI is appropriate for males with normal sperm evaluation and an average or higher sperm count and women who have open and clear fallopian tubes. Assists women with a cervical factor (eg. abnormality of the cervical mucus or cervical canal), some ovulation problems (eg. irregular menstrual cycles, PCOS).

Pros: relatively cheap and easy
Cons: Cannot do any genetic selection, low pregnancy rate (10-15%)
